The CLIMAX of LOTF

what is the climax of this novel? what happens? how do the events of this novel make you feel?

The climax of LOTF is when Simon gets killed. From the beginning of the novel, the boys think that Simon is weird (just because he is a little shy). Simon finds out that the "monster" was just a dead man with a parachute. The boys are in the middle of doing the pig killing dance when Simon tries to tell them the truth about the "monster". They get all crazy and push Simon to the middle of the dance. Then they hurl their wooden spears at him until he dies. The ocean washes his corpse away. After this happens, the ruler of the island switches from Ralph to Jack. All the boys except Samneric (the twins) go to Jack and serve him. The boys become even crazier after the death of Simon.

The climax of this novel really grosses me out. The nice little kids become scary murderers. Following the crowd, even Ralph (supposedly the good guy) joins in the dance of death. Everyone turns bad in an instance. This novel shows us how disgusting and barbaric we (people) really are.

I disagree with you. From my point of view, the climax is when Ralph runs away from the hunters. When they killed Simon and Piggy, they never intended to do so. But this time is different; the hunters are trying to kill Ralph on purpose. The time when Simon was killed was only the rising point. From that point, the hunters rely on instincts rather than rationality. However, the post is well organized and nicely done.

I agree with Josep. I also wrote about that part of the story for my post about the theme, but it's just that mine starts a little earlier than Josep's. I think the theme of this novel is when the pig head talks to Simon. It tells him that the kids cannot kill the Beast with weapons, and that the kids are part of the Beast. This is telling us that human nature of savagery and corruptness was the Beast, what will destroy them all. After that, Simon goes down to tell people what he had found, and gets killed. After his death, the one who is in control changes to Jack, not Ralph. Then, Jack starts killing off Ralph's followers, until the ship arrives.

I don't quiet agree with you. Like Steven, I think the climax is when Ralph runs away from the hunters and sees the naval officer because it is the place where the twist happens. From that point, the tention also starts to lessen. Any ways, I like your posting~
